若空格處泛指“一”時應使用不定冠詞a或an(a用于輔音音素前,an用于元音音素前)。

Quiet student as he may be, he talks a lot about his favorite singers after class. (2)當if虛擬條件從句中含有should/were/had時, 若將if省略,需將should/were/had提前。例: Had he caught the morning train, he would not have been late for the meeting. (3)注意what/whatever/no matter what/how/ however/nomatterhow引|導的有關名詞性從句、感嘆句 和讓步狀語從句。例:
CHAMPA LEARNS TOPERFORM

hampa loves singing more than C anything else in the whole wide world. She sings in the bathroom. And on the roof. She sings to the hills. And to the moon. She sings through rain. And through heat. When Champa sings, she is filled with the most marvellous feeling in the world.
One day, when Champa sings, Basant's eyes light up. "I have an amazing idea! he says. Basant is Champa's best friend and he is always bursting with ideas. “"You should sing on Annual Day!"says Basant.“What a terrible idea! says Champa. “Why not! You love to sing?"
Champa hasn't told Basant about the only time she got on stage and nearly fainted with fear. “I.. I can't sing in front of so many people. I don't even sing in front of Ma and Pa!" "You do sing around me! All you need is a little practice, Champa." "Should I? ""Yes! Yes! Yes!" "What if people laugh at me?" "If they do, it just makes them silly and mean. You're an amazing singer."

t was the summer before junior year. I was a l. at Granby Grill, a little diner in Columbia. My 2. were straightforward: Take orders, deliver food, clean tables.
Working there, I was in 3. with both coworkers and complete strangers more than I'd 4. been before. The stories they told felt like hints(線索) of the bigger life I was desperate to 5. This is where I think the 6. of a school job lies: learning how to form a community with people I never would have otherwise 7. or learned from.
School feels all-encompassing(全面的, 包羅萬象的)when you're in it. It can be hard to 8. that there's a much bigger world. It's not necessarily a 9. thing to be wrapped up in school. There's no math or history class that can teach you how to 13. that over.
The people I met at Granby Grill taught me that you can become 14. with those decades older than you and strangers who have none of the same interests or hobbies as you. They taught me that you can wildly disagree with someone and still 15. them, still learn from them, still love them.

here's nothing worse than a noisy neighbor when T you are trying to have a nice meal. New research shows that some spiders living in cities somehow weave soundproofing designs into the fabric of their webs to manage unwanted noise. The spiders living in the city essentially padded their walls because they were sick of it all—an adaptation that could put them at a disadvantage for hearing prey or potential mates, which also use vibrations to communicate their availability. But that may help the animals save their energy and not react to every urban sound they detect. This finding shows that spiders have come up with a solution for finding food and mates despite their big city problems. “While animal sensory systems can, and do, certainly adapt over evolutionary time to changing environmental conditions, this takes time,” one of the researchers said. “Behavioral changes, however, can be immediate."

ost of the earliest written languages that humans M invented were derived from pictures. Some of the writing systems that evolved from pictographs are still in wide use today, most notably Chinese. Instead of referring to sounds in an essentially arbitrary way, pictures refer to the world. But making a good picture—-let alone a spectacularly detailed and lifelike painting——-takes a long time. At least, this was the case until the Internet age. Emojis take all the effort out. You get a symbol with a universally understood meaning but without having to draw it yourself. In addition, emojis, as their name implies, convey emotion in ways that are more difficult and laborious to accomplish with words. So, in a way, writing has returned to its roots. Similarly, the idea of "scrolling” on a webpage or app harks back to the unspooling of ancient papyrus or parchment scrolls. The drawback of emojis is that they have not yet been collated into a universally agreed-upon dictionary. Perhaps the next evolution of the language of emoji will come when people systematize their meanings and put them into a kind of logical order, maybe even one where each emoji symbol takes on a new sound.
pictographn.
我們可以根據它和不同前綴的組合,在不用詞典的情況下,推斷出大多數生詞的意思,例如:phonograph(phono聲音 ^{+} graph 寫,記錄)留聲機;seismograph(seismo地震 ^+ graph記錄)地震儀;holograph(holo 全部,完整+graph畫,記錄)全息圖,全息照片。我們也可以根據這些組合來對我們已經熟知的詞有更深的認識,例如:photograph(photo 光 ^+ graph記錄)照相;geography(geo大地 ^+ graph 寫,論述+-y名詞后綴)地理;biography(bio生命 ^+ graph寫,記錄 ^+ y名詞后綴)傳記。

he Great Wall of China is the longest wall on the planet. Yet it is only one of many magnificent and important walls in China, which began ouilding fortifications 5,000 years ago to protect settlements from invaders. Many of hese city walls are long gone, having been razed by raiders or subsumed by expanding urban centres. But travellers can visit other city walls that still stand tall.

In China's central province of Shaanxi, Xi'an (formerly Chang'an), the starting point of the network of trading routes known as the Silk Road, houses the famed Terracotta Army Museum, the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda, the colossal Drum and Bell towers. A number of these attractions are contained within the enormous city walls of Xi'an. For centuries, this wall was a key defensive structure for Xi'an, once among the wealthiest Chinese cities.
The Xi'an wall-originally built during the Sui and Tang Dynasties——is considered the most complete and well-preserved city wall. The wall runs for 13.74~km . 4 main gates face each cardinal direction, and there are 14 minor gates in between, and a moat surrounds it. After the Terracotta Army, the wall is now one of Xi'an's most popular tourist attractions. It has welcomed hundreds of famous visitors. The annual Xi'an City Wall International Marathon is a local highlight. Since 1993, thousands of athletes from China and overseas gather in November to compete on the special track.
Today, the wall can be walked or even cycled, offering fantastic views across the Old Town area within. From the top of the Xi'an wall, the sights and sounds of modern life are inescapable——skyscrapers and neon lights, honking cars and scurrying pedestrians. Families take an evening stroll, complete with laughing, screaming children. There are vendors and buskers, tourists on bicycles, food stalls, and souvenir shops. Meanwhile, photographers are capturing dozens of young women dressed up in flowy hanfu. Dozens of ornate watchtowers and pavilions are scattered along the length of the wall. As dusk falls and the red lanterns and lights come on, the whole scene assumes fairytale vibes.
The struggle between conservation and modernization is universal, citing the example

Fearing that Terry might talk with her, she couldn't help but expect the day to end quickly.

Below are some helpful points/suggestions/stepson...,Here are some points/suggestions/steps..., Four ways/steps to...
